This smartphone is one of the front-runners of the all-new Symbian Anna, the Nokia X7. Symbian Anna, previously known as PR 2.0, is a major overhaul bringing portrait QWERTY input, improved browser and a refreshed design to the Symbian^3 platform. The Nokia X7 is also a media-centric device with a premium feel and a 4-inch AMOLED screen. It’s also one of the latest high-end Nokia handsets running Symbian, so it deserves some special attention. But does it deserve your buck? We’ll guide you through the novelties of the interface, see if that 680MHz ARM 11 processor under the hood can back up the experience, and look at the 8-megapixel fixed focus camera, but let’s start with some history.
Nokia X7 comes with a rather unique angular design with four grills on each of its corners, but only the bottom two hold speakers. It has a 4-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels dominating the front face. The downside though is that it doesn’t come with Nokia’s ClearBlack enhancement for nearly perfect blacks and better anti-reflection for outdoor visibility, but the colors was very vivid, with blacks still very deep, so I find it as an advantage. Add to that the Gorilla Glass scratch protection, and you’re looking at a delicious screen, corrupted slightly only by the average sunlight legibility.
The Nokia X7 also sports a fixed focus 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. Fixed-focus or full focus has the advantage of keeping nearly everything in focus and at the same time it’s extremely snappy as it doesn’t take the time to adjust focus for each shot. One thing to remember though is that everything closer than 20 inches automatically gets blurry, so you can forget about macro shots.

As new line of handsets being released by other big mobile phone manufacturer, world known handset manufacturer Nokia also intruduced a new handset into the market. The Nokia C5-03 from C-Series family was released just before the launch of their big product Nokia N8 handset. Nokia C5-03 is basically a 3G capable touchscreen mobile phone a very stylish looks and comes in a number of vibrant & variant colors. The C5-03 features a neat 3.2 inch TFT resistive touchscreen which features a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels with on board QWERTY keyboard and stylus support.

The operating system on the Nokia C5-03 is Symbian^1 S60 5th edition touch edition, which is somewhat depressing. But this handset features other essentials like Wi-Fi for faster internet access, compass, Bluetooth 2.0, A-GPS for free live navigation on Ovi Maps, Ovi Store and also features sharing through social networks.

The new Nokia C5-03 sports an impressive 5 megapixel camera, with 4X digital zoom features which can take excellent pictures and videos. But, there is no flash to accompany it. A very nifty feature that’s available though is Geo-tagging. Apart from images, video recording is supported at a resolution of 640×480 at 15fps and save them in H.263 or MPEG-4 formats. Storage wise, the Nokia C5-03 is impressive for a phone with mid-range features. C5-03 only has a 40MB of internal user memory, so there is a microSD card slot for external memory that is expandable up to 16 GB.

Nokia C5-03 operates on connectivities with support for quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, tri-band 3G with HSDPA (10.2Mbps) and HSUPA (2Mbps). The battery of Nokia C5-03 is impressive, with a 1000 mAh battery to a phone that has limited battery consumption, the result is an extremely long standby time of up to 24-25 days. And a talk time of 11.5 hours on 2G networks and 5 hours on 3G networks.

So, what is it about this new phone that makes it worth buying? With all the modern-day essentials features on this handsets, it definitely might be just the cheapest smartphone out there.

Available in the market for US$230 in variant colors like Graphite Black, Lime Green, Petrol Blue and Aluminum Grey.

Another new C-Series phone from Nokia is the Nokia C7-00 smartphone. It also operates on the latest Symbian^3 OS and it has the same blazing fast penta-band 3G, a 3.5” nHD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, a 680MHz CPU, 256MB RAM and 1GB ROM, which are some good figures for the efficient Symbian OS. The Nokia C7 has a curved, pebble-esque look. Physically, the Nokia C7′s curved and beveled edges encourage a comfortable hand holding experience. Made of a combination of plastic and metal, the phone, with its candybar form factor and lack of moving parts, feels distinctly durable and dense. The Nokia C7 feels like a phone, an attractive, slim phone. Without any protrusions, it fits very nicely in the pocket, and is comfortable to hold to the ear when making calls on it.

With the 3.5” nHD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, images, videos and text are displayed well on the Nokia C7. And with a resolutiion of 360×640, colours are punchy and vibrant, pixel density is good enough to ensure adequate sharpness for most smartphone tasks. The capacitive glass fronted screen feels comfortable when your finger or thumb glides along it, and scrolling and sliding feels smooth with an adequate frame-rate displaying what you do, when you do it. In this regard, Nokia have delivered another Symbian^3 phone with a screen that feels high-end, hopefully putting a nail in the coffin of sub-par resistive displays on premium handsets.

And like the Nokia C6-01, the Nokia C7 is equiped with 8MP camera and fixed focus. The 720p video recording is still on – as is Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. With 8GB of on board memory and expandable memory up to another 32GB via microSD expansion, the Nokia C7 has considerable media potential. With the 680MHz ARM 11 processor, the Nokia C7 will do its job well when web browsing. Social networking integration though, is limited to Facebook and Twitter. The phone will enable you to manually link contact information from your phonebook with Facebook, however, won’t automate the process like other mobile OSs, so it is pretty impractical for multiple contacts.

The Nokia C7 captures video at 3 resolutions, HD, VGA and very low res for multimedia messaging, with its HD 720p capture at 25fps and play back up to a resolution of 720p (DivX, H.264, MP4 and Xvid), and able to play it as smoothly as can be. The on-board GPS finds the Nokia C7’s position pretty quickly. Coupling this with Ovi Maps makes the phone a possible GPS replacement. Battery life on the Nokia C7 is also good. The talk time is 9.6 hours while the standby time is 18 days. The Nokia C7 also defaults to a power saving mode when the battery is low, which can be deactivated, offering easy ways to extend the life if need be.
The first thing you will notice about the phone is how compact it is. Measuring 103.8 x 52.5 x 13.9mm, the C6-01 is definitely smaller than its better known competitors, although it is a few millimetres thicker.
Nokia C6-01 also sport an 8-megapixel camera that comes with a dual-LED flash and can shoot HD video at 720p. Although a major advantage, its 8-megapixel camera only comes as full-focus, meaning that while it can take detailed photos, there’s little user control. And like the C7, this new device is also a social networker’s dream with live feeds from your favorite social networks available on your home screen. It has full web browsing of real web pages with touch control.

The Nokia C6-01 support microSD up to 32GB, if you are planning to make your own video or even store lots of mp3 on it. The battery life is solid, users can expect to see up to 17 days standby time and up to 11.5 hours talktime from the battery.
The C6-01 runs the Symbian^3 operating system. Symbian^3 supports three home screens, each with up to six widgets that the user can customize.

Not to be confused with the similarly-titled Nokia C6, the Nokia C6-01 enters the crowded smartphone arena at the lower end, and is priced accordingly.

Available colours: Black and Silver grey

KEY FEATURES:

* Quadband GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
* Pentaband WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100

What is a Smartphones? When do you consider a cell phone or mobile phone a Smartphone?

First let us know what a Smartphones is. Smartphone is a mobile phone that offers more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a contemporary feature phone. Smartphones and feature phones may be thought of as handheld computers integrated with a mobile telephone, but while most feature phones are able to run applications based on platforms such as Java ME, a smartphone usually allows the user to install and run more advanced applications. Smartphones run complete operating system software providing a platform for application developers. -Smartphone-Wikipedia

And what are the examples of this OS-operating system?

Since this website is solely for Nokia phones, I would discuss to you Nokia’s main OS being used in most of its Smartphones, which is Symbian. Yup, Symbian OS! It was first introduced by Ericsson in 2000 for their touchscreen smartphone R380, the first phone to use the new Symbian OS, running version ER5U (Symbian OS version 5, unicode).Although this is first line of product to used Symbian OS, Nokia already have their own Smartphones realeased earlier in 1996, the Nokia 9000 Communicator, which is runnning on GEOS 3.0. operating system. And on the second quarter of 2002, Nokia released its first line of Smartphones running with the Symbian OS (version 6.1); first Series 60(S60) platform device and the first with built-in camera, the Nokia 7650.
S60 is currently amongst the most-used smartphone platforms in the world. It was created by Nokia, who made the platform open source and contributed it to the Symbian Foundation. S60 has been used by mobile device manufacturers including Siemens mobile, Lenovo, LG Electronics, Panasonic and Samsung. Sony co-created the software with Nokia. Symbian was the most popular smartphone OS on the market by 47% of the sector’s total sales, with 17.9m handsets sold in Q4 2008. -Symbian-Wikipedia
Last year, new series of Smartphones were realeased by Nokia using latest version of Symbian OS, the Symbian^3. It was announced on February 15, 2010 and was designed to be a more ‘next generation’ smartphone platform. The Symbian^3 release introduced new features such as a new 2D and 3D graphics architecture, UI improvements, and support for external displays through HDMI. It has single tap menus and up to three customizable homescreens. The Symbian^3 SDK was released September 2010. Four phones with the open source Symbian^3 have been released to the market and these are Nokia N8, Nokia C6-01, Nokia E7-00 and Nokia C7-00. Another new version of Symbian technology is the Symbian^4, which is expected to be released in the first half of 2011. Nokia, however, announced last October 2010 that Symbian^4 will not ship as a separate release on new phones, but rather as an improvements or software updates to all current Symbian^3 devices.

So what makes Symbian special and what does it do to my phone?

Symbian features pre-emptive multitasking and memory protection, like other operating systems (especially those created for use on desktop computers). EPOC’s approach to multitasking was inspired by VMS and is based on asynchronous server-based events. Symbian OS was created with three systems design principles in mind: the integrity and security of user data is paramount, user time must not be wasted, and all resources are scarce. To best follow these principles, Symbian uses a microkernel, has a request-and-callback approach to services, and maintains separation between user interface and engine. The OS is optimised for low-power battery-based devices and for ROM-based systems (e.g. features like XIP and re-entrancy in shared libraries). Applications, and the OS itself, follow an object-oriented design: Model-view-controller (MVC). Later OS iterations diluted this approach in response to market demands, notably with the introduction of a real-time kernel and a platform security model in versions 8 and 9. There is a strong emphasis on conserving resources which is exemplified by Symbian-specific programming idioms like descriptor [disambiguation needed]s and a cleanup stack. There are similar techniques for conserving disk space (though the disks on Symbian devices are usually flash memory). Furthermore, all Symbian programming is event-based, and the CPU is switched into a low power mode when applications are not directly dealing with an event. This is achieved through a programming idiom called active objects. Similarly the Symbian approach to threads and processes is driven by reducing overheads. Symbian has a microkernel architecture, which means that the minimum necessary is within the kernel to maximise robustness, availability and responsiveness. It contains a scheduler, memory management and device drivers, but other services like networking, telephony and filesystem support are placed in the OS Services Layer or the Base Services Layer. The inclusion of device drivers means the kernel is not a true microkernel. The EKA2 real-time kernel, which has been termed a nanokernel, contains only the most basic primitives and requires an extended kernel to implement any other abstractions. Symbian is designed to emphasise compatibility with other devices, especially removable media file systems. -Symbian-Wikipedia

Nokia N8 is the latest Nokia flagship device and one of their best smartphones to date. This mobile phone has a lot of excitement surrounding it, which makes it all the more attractive. Nokia N8 has a slim and slick design that is a pleasure to hold.

The phone is made out of aluminium, which gives it a top quality finish and a top quality high-end look and the glass touchscreen covers most of the front of the phone, and the front has a single button.

N8 is Nokia’s first ever mobile phone to run on Symbian^3 OS and the new operating system is a much better improvement than previous versions of Symbian on touchscreens. The N8 has AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors display and the screen’s touch response is good, better than other Nokia touchscreens.

The main 12 megapixel camera is fantastic! The camera have Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and can shoot HD video, that you can edit using the ‘built-in editing suite.’ But the most important addition to the camera is the biggest sensor that one can find in a mobile phone, which is even bigger than those found in many digital cameras. This sensor, when combined with the high-end optics will provide top-notch pictures and also enable the camera to function perfectly in low-light conditions. The N8 lives up to its title as the best camera phone on the market at the moment.

Other specifications include a whopping memory capacity – a 16GB of built-in storage, which if not ample enough for your have loads of music, can further expand to 48GB using microSD cards. N8 also has GPS with free Ovi Maps navigation, FM radio and FM transmitter, front facing video call camera, microSD card slot, 3G and WiFi. There is another cool feature, which is USB on-the-go support, this allows the phone to read USB memory sticks, and works as said.

Battery life’s performance is also very good. The N8 is Nokia’s first smartphone to include Qt – so it must be a dream come true for programmers. N8 has it all, a Quad Band GSM, 5 Band UMTS/HSDPA, and uPnP.

Overall the N8 is Nokia’s best touchscreen smartphone to date, and is also the best camera phone to date, it looks great and functions well. And one word to describe Nokia N8-Amazing!

Other features include contacts on homescreen and also Stereo FM radio, Flash Lite 3.0, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and MIDP Java 2.1 with additional Java APIs. The low price of this phone meant Nokia had to cut down on some features like 3G, so you must rely on Wi-Fi signal for your web browsing and on checking out your social networking sites. But the lack of 3G in Nokia C3 is nothing to complain about, since there are lots and lots of free Wi-Fi hotspots where you can access free internet with this lovely Nokia C3.

The Nokia C3 is also powered by the old Symbian S40 Operating System which is really a downer since the Nokia C5 sports S60 OS. But just like the other phone, every phone has its value to excel. You will find the keyboard on the Nokia C3 to be great, the battery life is outstanding and the sheer easy-to-use makes it one of the better entry-level devices on the market today. You can easily change the background theme and icons on your own. For easy ringtone personalization, Nokia C3 support the following formats: MP3 ringtones, .mid, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+, WMA..

You can get live Facebook and Twitter feeds right on your home screen and you can manage your email up to 10 personal email accounts. You can also Chat using Windows Messenger, Yahoo messenger, Google Talk and Ovi Chat. You can access Calendar and music with dedicated widgets on your home screen. When it comes to storage, the 55MB of internal memory is best saved for updates and such like, while the supplied 2GB microSD card has enough memory space to get you making the most of the MP3 player and downloading new apps via Ovi Store, you will find that it supports cards up to 16GB in size, so memory space shouldn’t be an issue at all.
Nokia C3 is available in Slate Gray, Golden White and Hot Pink color combination.

Today we’ll be looking into the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, the second touch screen model of the Nokia’s music series. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is the latest to be added to the Nokia mobile phone assortment, following in the footsteps of the 5800 XpressMusic with a slightly lower price tag than its predecessors.

Sporting the Symbian S60 OS 5th edition, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic has not only the brain of a smart phone, but also a great touch screen mobile phone. It has a 2.9-inch display which you may find a little on the small side, considering it doesn’t fill the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic frame, it is a great device that well functions both as a reliable communicator and as an excellent music player.

And just like with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, both the microSD and SIM card slots are on the left side of the phone. The volume rocker and the slider that locks and unlocks the phone screen and touch sensitive keys are on the opposite side, along with the camera shutter. The 3.5mm jack is on the bottom side, with the microUSB and charger ports on either side. Finally, the bottom left corner hides the plastic stylus that is not telescopic, but is long enough.

Unfortunately, there are downsides to a low budget mobile phone like the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic does not offer 3G connectivity, but is equipped with Wi-Fi. While not as high-end as the Nokia 5800, this device is equip with a 3.2MP camera with LED flash, 3.5 mm audio jack that´s mandatory for all music-oriented devices these days, and a touchscreen display offering resolution of 640×360.

And the color support remains the same with 16M colors and image quality in artificial light is decent. The display sensitivity has been seriously improved and the manufacturer has incorporated TFT resistive technology again. You still need to press firmly, but this feels much easier now and doesn’t require much pressure. To easily personalize your Nokia 5530, search the following ringtone formats: MP3 Ringtones and Polyphonic Ringtones

Assessment on Nokia 5530 XpressMusic:

- Cheaper than the 5800 XpressMusic
- Feature a 2.9-inch touch-screen, a 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera, a 3.5mm headphone socket, a FM radio
- Connectivity options: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS/EDGE, WLAN, high speed MicroUSB connector
- 70MB of internal memory along with a 4GB microSD card
- A pop-up Media bar to quickly access music, photos, videos, Internet
- A built-in music player support for MP3, AAC and WMA
- Excellent audio quality
- Doesn’t charge via USB
- Not optimized for finger touch browsing

I believe that is what Nokia XpressMusic phones are all about. To deliver a phone with Music Player/Entertainment capabilities on it with an affordable price for all music lover.
