Nokia X7 Smartphone and Symbian Anna – the Perfect Combination

This smartphone is one of the front-runners of the all-new Symbian Anna, the Nokia X7. Symbian Anna, previously known as PR 2.0, is a major overhaul bringing portrait QWERTY input, improved browser and a refreshed design to the Symbian^3 platform. The Nokia X7 is also a media-centric device with a premium feel and a 4-inch AMOLED screen. It’s also one of the latest high-end Nokia handsets running Symbian, so it deserves some special attention. But does it deserve your buck? We’ll guide you through the novelties of the interface, see if that 680MHz ARM 11 processor under the hood can back up the experience, and look at the 8-megapixel fixed focus camera, but let’s start with some history.
Nokia X7 comes with a rather unique angular design with four grills on each of its corners, but only the bottom two hold speakers. It has a 4-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels dominating the front face. The downside though is that it doesn’t come with Nokia’s ClearBlack enhancement for nearly perfect blacks and better anti-reflection for outdoor visibility, but the colors was very vivid, with blacks still very deep, so I find it as an advantage. Add to that the Gorilla Glass scratch protection, and you’re looking at a delicious screen, corrupted slightly only by the average sunlight legibility.
The Nokia X7 also sports a fixed focus 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash. Fixed-focus or full focus has the advantage of keeping nearly everything in focus and at the same time it’s extremely snappy as it doesn’t take the time to adjust focus for each shot. One thing to remember though is that everything closer than 20 inches automatically gets blurry, so you can forget about macro shots.

Since this is my first article of Nokia’s new “X” Series phones, we’ll just take a quick look at the Nokia X3. The Nokia X3 is designed first and foremost for music lovers and is also the first Series 40 6th Edition Ovi Store-enabled device. Sleek, compact and affordable music-oriented handset you can find. Nokia C5-03: Best Symbian Smartphone In Affordable Price

As new line of handsets being released by other big mobile phone manufacturer, world known handset manufacturer Nokia also intruduced a new handset into the market. The Nokia C5-03 from C-Series family was released just before the launch of their big product Nokia N8 handset. Nokia C7-00 C-Series Symbian^3 Smartphone

Another new C-Series phone from Nokia is the Nokia C7-00 smartphone. It also operates on the latest Symbian^3 OS and it has the same blazing fast penta-band 3G, a 3.5” nHD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, a 680MHz CPU, 256MB RAM and 1GB ROM, which are some good figures for the efficient Symbian OS. The Nokia C7 has a curved, pebble-esque look. Physically, the Nokia C7′s curved and beveled edges encourage a comfortable hand holding experience. Made of a combination of plastic and metal, the phone, with its candybar form factor and lack of moving parts, feels distinctly durable and dense. The Nokia C7 feels like a phone, an attractive, slim phone. Without any protrusions, it fits very nicely in the pocket, and is comfortable to hold to the ear when making calls on it.

With the 3.5” nHD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, images, videos and text are displayed well on the Nokia C7. And with a resolutiion of 360×640, colours are punchy and vibrant, pixel density is good enough to ensure adequate sharpness for most smartphone tasks. The capacitive glass fronted screen feels comfortable when your finger or thumb glides along it, and scrolling and sliding feels smooth with an adequate frame-rate displaying what you do, when you do it. In this regard, Nokia have delivered another Symbian^3 phone with a screen that feels high-end, hopefully putting a nail in the coffin of sub-par resistive displays on premium handsets.

And like the Nokia C6-01, the Nokia C7 is equiped with 8MP camera and fixed focus. The 720p video recording is still on – as is Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. With 8GB of on board memory and expandable memory up to another 32GB via microSD expansion, the Nokia C7 has considerable media potential. With the 680MHz ARM 11 processor, the Nokia C7 will do its job well when web browsing. Social networking integration though, is limited to Facebook and Twitter. The phone will enable you to manually link contact information from your phonebook with Facebook, however, won’t automate the process like other mobile OSs, so it is pretty impractical for multiple contacts.

The Nokia C7 captures video at 3 resolutions, HD, VGA and very low res for multimedia messaging, with its HD 720p capture at 25fps and play back up to a resolution of 720p (DivX, H.264, MP4 and Xvid), and able to play it as smoothly as can be. The on-board GPS finds the Nokia C7’s position pretty quickly. Coupling this with Ovi Maps makes the phone a possible GPS replacement. Battery life on the Nokia C7 is also good. The talk time is 9.6 hours while the standby time is 18 days. The Nokia C7 also defaults to a power saving mode when the battery is low, which can be deactivated, offering easy ways to extend the life if need be.

The Nokia C6-01 is a Symbian^3 smartphone from the Nokia C-series with a 3.2in AMOLED (640 x 360-pixels) display with capacitive touchscreen capabilities and Nokia’s ClearBlack technology for improved outdoor visibility. The first thing you will notice about the phone is how compact it is. Measuring 103.8 x 52.5 x 13.9mm, the C6-01 is definitely smaller than its better known competitors, although it is a few millimetres thicker.

Nokia N8 is the latest Nokia flagship device and one of their best smartphones to date. This mobile phone has a lot of excitement surrounding it, which makes it all the more attractive. Nokia N8 has a slim and slick design that is a pleasure to hold.

The phone is made out of aluminium, which gives it a top quality finish and a top quality high-end look and the glass touchscreen covers most of the front of the phone, and the front has a single button.

N8 is Nokia’s first ever mobile phone to run on Symbian^3 OS and the new operating system is a much better improvement than previous versions of Symbian on touchscreens. The N8 has AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors display and the screen’s touch response is good, better than other Nokia touchscreens.

The main 12 megapixel camera is fantastic! The camera have Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and can shoot HD video, that you can edit using the ‘built-in editing suite.’ But the most important addition to the camera is the biggest sensor that one can find in a mobile phone, which is even bigger than those found in many digital cameras. This sensor, when combined with the high-end optics will provide top-notch pictures and also enable the camera to function perfectly in low-light conditions. The N8 lives up to its title as the best camera phone on the market at the moment.

Other specifications include a whopping memory capacity – a 16GB of built-in storage, which if not ample enough for your have loads of music, can further expand to 48GB using microSD cards. N8 also has GPS with free Ovi Maps navigation, FM radio and FM transmitter, front facing video call camera, microSD card slot, 3G and WiFi. There is another cool feature, which is USB on-the-go support, this allows the phone to read USB memory sticks, and works as said.

Battery life’s performance is also very good. The N8 is Nokia’s first smartphone to include Qt – so it must be a dream come true for programmers. N8 has it all, a Quad Band GSM, 5 Band UMTS/HSDPA, and uPnP.

Overall the N8 is Nokia’s best touchscreen smartphone to date, and is also the best camera phone to date, it looks great and functions well. And one word to describe Nokia N8-Amazing!

Nokia C5: C-Series Smartphone

Nokia’s first C-series Nokia C5 smartphone is cool and simple candybar phone that is made from a combination of plastic and aluminium, which feels pretty light in the hands. The build quality is generally solid, although the matte-silver battery cover was slightly loose at the bottom. The moment you hold the Nokia C5 in your hand, you’ll get a really good solid and sturdy feeling, even for it’s price, it’s really well made like any other Nokia handset out there.

The Nokia C5 runs on the Symbian S60 3rd edition operating system with Feature Pack 2, which is practically on every other non-touchscreen Nokia smartphone. Smart dialling, conference calling (up to three participants), voice commands and video calling (uses the secondary front-facing VGA camera) are all supported. The only feature lacking from the Nokia C5 is Wi-Fi, so it means you’re limited to using the 3G connection for downloading apps and staying in touch. This isn’t a problem as long as you have a decent data tariff with your contract – and a good 3G signal where you live.

The Nokia C5 has a powereful ARM11 600MHz processor with 128MB of RAM. Mostly, the handset felt snappy and the occasional split-second lag barely to register on your annoyance meter. Browsing images and videos automatically rotate the display to landscape orientation, which is somehow snappy.

The alpha-numeric keypad is comfortable to use and the 2.2-inch QVGA display is adequate for a device of this size. The TFT panel is capable of displaying 16.7 million colours, but the screen has some little bad veiwing angles under the sun. Indoors, the display appeared sharp and vibrant. The Nokia C5 also has a 3.5mm audio jack for headset, micro-USB port and 2mm charging connector at the top, while a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash is around back. The 3.2-megapixel camera is a fixed-focus module with a maximum aperture of F2.4 and may be a little entry-level, when you think that most Nokia smartphones have moved to 5-Megapixels as the norm. Still, it’s easy to use and you’ll found the results from the Nokia C5 camera more than acceptable and is also capable of recording VGA videos at 15fps.

There’s no denying the Nokia C5 is a great looking and stylish phone. It’s compact, lightweight and a pleasure to use and it’s not until you start to explore a little deeper that you actually see how powerful it really is. Nokia 5530-XpressMusic Smartphone

Today we’ll be looking into the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, the second touch screen model of the Nokia’s music series. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is the latest to be added to the Nokia mobile phone assortment, following in the footsteps of the 5800 XpressMusic with a slightly lower price tag than its predecessors.

Sporting the Symbian S60 OS 5th edition, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic has not only the brain of a smart phone, but also a great touch screen mobile phone. It has a 2.9-inch display which you may find a little on the small side, considering it doesn’t fill the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic frame, it is a great device that well functions both as a reliable communicator and as an excellent music player.

And just like with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, both the microSD and SIM card slots are on the left side of the phone. The volume rocker and the slider that locks and unlocks the phone screen and touch sensitive keys are on the opposite side, along with the camera shutter. The 3.5mm jack is on the bottom side, with the microUSB and charger ports on either side. Finally, the bottom left corner hides the plastic stylus that is not telescopic, but is long enough.

Unfortunately, there are downsides to a low budget mobile phone like the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic. The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic does not offer 3G connectivity, but is equipped with Wi-Fi. While not as high-end as the Nokia 5800, this device is equip with a 3.2MP camera with LED flash, 3.5 mm audio jack that´s mandatory for all music-oriented devices these days, and a touchscreen display offering resolution of 640×360.

And the color support remains the same with 16M colors and image quality in artificial light is decent. The display sensitivity has been seriously improved and the manufacturer has incorporated TFT resistive technology again. You still need to press firmly, but this feels much easier now and doesn’t require much pressure. Boom!!! Another bombshell from Nokia! Cell phones have been an indispensable part of our daily lives for a long time.

Their popularity and influence to people are enormous and still growing rapidly, using the global network for virtually anything, from watching videos, listening to music, chatting, social networking and searching information to content publishing, email correspondence and so on.
And to meet that needs of today´s tech-hungry consumers, Nokia released their latest internet tablet, the Nokia N900. Designed for computer-grade performance in a compact size, Maemo complements Nokia’s other software platforms, such as Symbian, which powers Nokia’s smartphones. Jonathan Arber, Senior Research Analyst in Consumer Mobile at IDC says “Just as Nokia continues to expand and diversify its portable device portfolio, so it is deploying multiple platforms to allow it to serve different purposes and address different markets.

While we have seen continued growth in Symbian as a smartphone platform, Maemo enables Nokia to deliver new mobile computing experiences based on open-source technology that has strong ties with desktop platforms.”

Packs with a powerful ARM Cortex-A8 processor, up to 1GB of application memory and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration. The Nokia N900 runs in a PC-like multitasking, allowing many applications to run simultaneously. Switching between applications is simple, as all running content is constantly available through the dashboard. The panoramic homescreen can be fully personalized with favorite shortcuts, widgets and applications.

Messaging is made easy and convenient thanks to the full physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Setting up email happens with only a few touches and the Nokia Messaging service mobilizes up to 10 personal email accounts. Text message or IM exchanges with friends are shown in one view and all conversations are organized as separate windows.
To make web browsing more enjoyable, the Nokia N900 features a high-resolution WVGA touch screen and fast internet connectivity with 10/2 HSPA and WLAN. And thanks to the browser powered by Mozilla technology, websites look the way they would on any computer. Online videos and interactive applications are vivid with full Adobe Flash 9.4 support. Maemo software updates happen automatically over the internet.
It features a 5 MP camera labeled with Carl Zeiss lens pack with dual LEDs flash and active lens cover. The Nokia N900’s camera beats all others with its feature as well as image quality. And its video capture is done in 848×480 pixels (3.4Mbps, 24fps, AAC mono 48 kHz). The Nokia N900 is capable of playing DVD-resolution videos and plays video with the following formats: .mp4, .avi, .wmv, .3gp; codecs: H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, WMV, and H.263. Video streaming formats: H.264, MPEG-4, Xvid, WMV, H.263 in .avi, .mp4, .wmv, .asf and .3gp containers. It is capable of using MP3 Ringtones as incoming call ringers or as music only.
